About The Team

Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Licensed Special Education Teacher

I blame Jill (in a good way). I grew up with Jill, and she is the reason I became a special education teacher. After many years of attending special Olympic events, eating countless Sunday dinners with her family and helping in her school, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in that direction.

I graduated from Longwood College and earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in special education and community and college counseling. I taught for 19 years in the public school system and 3 years at Plan Bee Academy, a local ABA-based school. While teaching at the ABA based school for autistic children and those with developmental differences, I pursued my BCBA certification. After becoming licensed as an ABA therapist, I began working at Anchor ABA Therapy providing in home behavioral therapy for children on the spectrum.

From day one with Anchor ABA, thoughts of starting my own company were planted and grew. My goal is not to become a large company, but to remain small, provide excellent therapy and support to the families we serve and to mentor others in the field if they stop at Surfside ABA on their journey.

In my free time I enjoy running, biking and walking with my husband, our cattle dog and a handful of friends. I love time with family, sitting on the beach, a good book and anything with sugar in it!

For as long as I can remember I have been working with kids whether it was babysitting, camp counselor or working at a daycare while in college. I always knew I wanted to work with kids in some capacity; I just wasn’t sure what that was going to be. My journey to become a BCBA was a long one as I have only been a BCBA for 6 years.

I graduated from University of Maryland in College Park with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and then attended Wheelock College in Boston where I received a Master’s degree in Child Life: Hospital and Healthcare Settings. I worked in early intervention for a while before staying home to raise my kids. When it was time to go back and have a “second career” I knew I wanted to work with kids with autism. I pursued the classes I needed to become a BCBA while working in the field at several companies in the area. I have always known I wanted to start my own company from my first job in the field. Surfside ABA Therapy allows me to make a difference in the lives of children and families one child at a time.

In my free time I enjoy working out, playing tennis or riding bikes with my husband. I love to sit on the beach and spend time with my family and friends.

I have always loved kids. Their unique way of seeing and understanding their surroundings and their individual idiosyncrasies has always made me want to see the world from their viewpoint. Throughout high school and college years I worked at a Girl Scout Equestrian Ranch helping girls through new experiences and fears.
Priceless moments of seeing accomplishment on their face and their family’s faces instilled a desire for my career to help kids accomplish goals.

Next, working at Valley Children’s Hospital gave me the opportunity to walk through many different diagnoses with families. Through that job, I knew I didn’t want to work only with kids, but their family as a whole. I want to help empower parents and children so everyone can thrive in the family vision. That combination led me to working as a Registered Behavioral Technician while currently pursuing further education in ABA.

While new to the field, I bring experience and passion for loving kids and partnering with families in all types of environments and diagnosis. I look forward to meeting your family. Thank you in advance for the opportunity to see the world from your child’s viewpoint, and be a part of your own unique journey.

In my free time I chase my two toddler boys! I am involved in a local church, spend time in community with friends and learning to sail with my husband. I look forward to Friday nights with pizza and baking cookies when it rains.

Children have always been drawn to me and I to them.  I love the honesty of children and figuring out the way each child thinks and learns best.  During my early career after obtaining my Master of Education in Counseling degree, I worked with adults and spent time with children in fun settings.  After moving to Virginia in 2003, I started working with children providing intensive in-home mental health counseling.  Many years later, I transitioned to working with children as a clinician in an ABA in-home program.  I learned enough about ABA to know I wanted to learn more.  I received a Certificate in ABA from Florida Tech and pursued my BCBA.  I then worked as a supervisor in ABA and missed providing direct services with children.  I am excited to join the team at Surfside ABA which allows me to return to working with children directly.  I love to play and engage children in learning activities.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and spending time at the beach.  I love to laugh and watch movies and TV shows.  I also love to read and recently joined a Book Club for the first time.

In some capacity, I have been in the field of behavior analysis for over 15 years. My journey into the world of ABA and autism began in high school while I was babysitting children with special needs. I loved getting to know the kids, learning about their unique interests and I also felt honored by the trust put in me by parents. As I entered college, I knew I wanted to learn more about how to work with children with special needs and their families.

I attended the University of California, Irvine and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in psychology and then went on to receive my master’s degree in psychology from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Throughout my education, I worked in both home and school settings providing direct ABA services as a behavior therapist. I began pursuing my BCBA in California and completed it in Virginia after moving with my family in 2020.

I love being able to work directly with clients and their families and am passionate about learning new evidenced-based techniques and strategies in the field.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my 2 daughters and my husband, exercising, and learning more and more about my field!

Registered Behavior Technician

Unlike some, I did not always know I would dedicate my professional career to working with children. Thankfully my academic advisor, Dr. Meese, at Longwood University knew better. With her guidance I discovered my passion for working with children with special needs. From my first class with Dr. Meese, I never looked back. Thirty-one years later I have been a teacher and coach and feel blessed for each year. I completed both my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a concentration in the Exceptional Child and my master’s in special education at Longwood University.

Working with children is a new experience each day; filled with surprises, new accomplishments, and personal growth. I am proud to be a teacher and thrilled to be a Registered Behavior Technician. The highlight of my 31 years of teaching has been the last 13 years in which I have developed and taught interpersonal skills for students with Autism. The “IN Crowd” has taught me each child has unique interests and learning styles to be celebrated.

As an RBT, I enjoy working as a team with clients and their families to provide in-home behavioral therapy. Working as a team with families, I believe that all individuals can meet their goals and experience their full potential.

I am honored to join the dedicated professionals at Surfside ABA. I know this opportunity will broaden my skill set and support facilitating evidence-based behavioral strategies for our families and their loved ones.

Lastly, the outdoors is how I reenergize myself. I enjoy long walks with my 2 labs, biking, playing tennis and golf, yoga and camping with my husband and two energetic boys.

Working with kids has always been the plan. From coaching tennis camps to baby sitting my cousins and siblings, I’ve always enjoyed helping kids.

I went to college with the intention of becoming a therapist. I stumbled upon ABA after years of working with kids and teens in an inpatient psychiatric setting. I “pivoted” my career path and began working at an ABA based school. I quickly fell in love with the science. After always planning to further my education in the field of psychology, I knew I’d rather pursue my graduate degree in ABA. During my course work, I taught grades 2-6 and watched my kiddos grow into such amazing people. This field has been so fulfilling in ways I could have never imagined. I am thankful I stumbled upon ABA and am lucky enough to celebrate the big wins as well as the little wins with kiddos every day. I am still with this ABA based school where I now work full time as a BCBA providing support within the classroom setting.

I am very excited to expand my skill set into the home setting and not just work with the kiddos, but the whole family.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and kayaking with my fiancé and our 3 dachshunds.
